The State of AI Investing
Who is getting funded? And if you're an AI founder, what do you need to do to successfully fundraise?
Over $55 billion has been invested so far in 2024 into over 3000 venture-backed AI companies! But over half of that funding has gone to mega-rounds ($100m+ raised) in just ~86 companies.
I recently dug into the current state of AI investing — who is getting funded, how much AI companies are raising, and the state of M&A and IPOs — in a presentation I delivered at the AI Infrastructure Conference in San Francisco. I spent hours digging through the data, honing in on where AI venture capital is flowing, what to expect moving forward, and what founders should be doing to succeed in an unpredictable market.
I believe this information is valuable to anyone in AI or interested in AI. Luckily, the summit published a video of my talk, so I’ve decided to share both the video and the slides:
Some of the questions my presentation helps answer:
Who’s getting funding in 2024?
What’s the average round size for an AI startup?
Why is so much VC money going to mega-rounds?
What kinds of AI companies are VCs looking for?
What can the top startup accelerator (Y Combinator) tell us about the state of AI?
What should founders be doing to successfully raise for their AI startup?
Download the slides, watch the video, share them with your friends, and let me know what you think!

P.S. If you’re raising for your AI company, my co-founder Matt Schlicht and I are writing $200k+ checks to fund the next generation of pre-seed and seed-stage AI companies, Shoot me an email! (It’s in the deck.)
